How age is calculated
The calculator counts full years first, then the remaining full months, then the leftover days, the same way you would count on a calendar. If your birthday has not come around yet this year, the year count stays one lower until it does.
Handy uses
- Checking age eligibility for an exam, job or form as of a cut-off date. Change the "Age on" date to that cut-off.
- Finding out how many days or weeks old someone is.
- Seeing how many days are left until the next birthday.
Leap-day birthdays
If you were born on 29 February, your birthday in non-leap years is counted on 1 March in this calculator. Rules for legal purposes can differ, so check the official rule if it matters.
Frequently asked questions
Can I find my age on a past or future date?
Yes. Change the 'Age on' date. It defaults to today, but any date works as long as it is after the date of birth.
Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
How is 'total months' counted?
It is the number of complete months since the date of birth, not counting the extra days.
